The Dominican Republic E-Ticket, explained in plain English

If you've started planning a trip to Punta Cana, you've probably already run into the term "E-Ticket." It causes more confusion than it should — partly because a handful of copycat websites have made it look more complicated (and more expensive) than it actually is.

Here's the short version: the E-Ticket is a free, mandatory digital form for anyone entering or leaving the Dominican Republic. It replaced the old paper immigration and customs forms, and now folds in a basic health declaration as well. Every traveler needs one, including children.

Before anything else: the official form is completely free. If a site asks for a credit card to "process" your E-Ticket, close the tab — that's a scam site designed to look like the real one.

When should you fill it out?

You can complete it as soon as you have your flight confirmation, but most travelers do it about 24 to 72 hours before departure — early enough that you're not rushing, but close enough that your travel details are final. The form asks for your passport information, flight details, and a short health declaration.

Does everyone in the family need a separate one?

Yes, technically every traveler needs to be included — but you don't need to create a separate account for each person. One adult can register and add the rest of the family or travel group to the same application, so you end up with a single QR code covering everyone in your party.

What happens at the airport?

You'll show the QR code you received by email, either printed or on your phone, when you go through immigration. Airport staff scan it directly, so there's no need to fill out anything on paper once you land.

Good to know: the QR code stays valid for a few days around your travel dates, so if your flight gets delayed or shifted slightly, you generally don't need to redo the whole form — just double-check the details still match.

How to avoid the scam sites

Once it's done, you can mostly forget about it until you land — just keep the confirmation email handy in case you need to pull up the QR code again.
